Movie review : “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”

I just got back from a midnight showing of “Rise of the Plant of the Apes” and let me just say that the only reason I am able to write-up a review right now at 2 am is because I am so energized and pumped from the movie I just want to take over the world with apes (I seriously just want to run around a city with a giant group…just fight everyone..take em down!). I am no fancy movie reviewer so if that’s what you want..just leave..if you want to know if the movie kicks butt and if its amazing then keep reading.

The storyline of this movie is the following:” An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.” – IMDb

But oh…oh! It’s so much more!!!.

When I first saw the trailer for this movie I knew I would at least rent it. I was unsure about the movie because some movies that look that amazing end up sucking sometimes or the ending is awful….I was actually freaking out about the ending of this movie throughout the entire movie because I didn’t see a good one happening..but dont worry! The ending ties it all together.

When you go and see this movie you will fall in love with 3 chimps/gorillas. There will be moments when you tear up a little. You will smile and cheer on the apes as they take down all the humans that mistreated them. At the beginning you may start out pro-human but at the end..if your normal you will be converted to pro-ape. I know when you think about a movie that’s suppose to be serious but there are apes that talk you kind of wonder how it could be taken seriously..how will they execute it so that it’s not a joke? In this movie they introduce it slowly. This film was no joke, had no stupid parts that made you shake your head in disappointment. This movie is one that I would see twice in theaters and then purchase the dvd when released.

Being tough on the movie I give it a rating of 8/10. There are no perfect movies but this movie is close.

If you are unsure about seeing this movie, just take a risk because you will love it!

Song of the week : Great Big Sea

Last night I walked my dogs, like I do every evening. It was marvelous weather! the day before it had been warm, bright and sunny but last night it was foggy, cold and looked as if it were going to rain…my favorite weather! While walking the pups I was thinking about which song I would choose for the week and I decided to pick a song by “Great Big Sea”.

I found this band after seeing “Robin Hood” for the first time (the new one). After seeing the movie I came home and looked up the actors that starred in the movie, something I do all the time. I found out that Alan A’Dayle was played by Alan Doyle, the lead singer in a group called “Great Big Sea” and a friend of Russell Crowe. I decided to check out the band since they were folk rock..and I loved them!

Alan Doyle in "Robin Hood"

The band covers traditional Newfoundland folk songs and also writes their own music.

I chose the song titled ‘Recruiting Sergeant”  because it fit last nights weather beautifully and I wanted the song I chose to do so. This song is amazing! it’s so lively it makes me want to buy a boat, go to the beach and go sail somewhere :). The lyrics are also very meaningful which is awesome, the song is about WWI. The instruments used in this band are awesome! The accordion, drums, bass, the bouzouki, banjo and the mandolin! it’s a list of awesomeness! So here it is..the song of the week.

I hope you all end up loving this band as much as I do.

Have an amazing rest of the week!! 🙂

Best Marx Brothers movie

I love and adore the Marx Brothers…I have since I was little and I first saw Duck Soup. I never knew which movie was my favorite…Duck Soup? no..A night at the Opera? hmm maybe yeah..and it was for a few years but now it’s changed! My favorite Marx Brothers movie is Monkey Business. This movie is hilarious!! now that isn’t surprising news since it is a Marx Bros movie but this is the best one its funnier than all the other ones. Harpo is just a little jerk in this movie it’s so funny to watch! he has soo much character and personality..much more in this movie than in all the other movies Groucho is pretty much the same but the jokes seem fresher and full of spunk. I really couldn’t get over Harpo in this movie, I watched it last night with my dad and I was laughing so hard, he’s such a little punk. Chico is also pretty much the same, but even Zeppo was hilarious in this movie which was a nice change because were so used to seeing him as the serious brother without a joke to his name. This movie is so great to watch, its early in their movie career, the brothers seem to be having so much fun with each other its great to see. My favorite part of this movie is definitely when they are all in the barn at the end of the movie..when Harpo and Chico are playing “the only game in the stable” and then when Groucho runs up to a cow and says ” You’re a mother you understand”.

The brothers put so much energy in to their performances in this movie its beyond fun to watch.

I hope you all have an awesome week!! and an amazing monday! 🙂

Pepparkakor mmmmm..

I love these cookies, they are delicious! They are traditional Scandinavian sugar and spice cookies and I make sure to make hundreds every year at Christmas time. I made these while watching The Lord of the Rings : The Return of the King. I use this recipe every year…I twist the recipe around and make it my own so here it is…

for the recipe you will need

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

First cream the butter and sugar, then add the eggs and molasses and beat well. Mix all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl and then add the dry mix to the wet ingredients 1/2 cups at a time, mixing well after each addition. Roll dough into teaspoon sized balls (I use a melon baller) and roll in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Finally you bake on a greased sheet for 8-10 minutes at 350.

My giant bag of flour that I have to keep in the garage freezer so it isn’t sitting on the garage floor..i go through about 2-3 bags  a year (;

mmmm…the cinnamon and sugar mixture..i usually have more sugar than cinnamon but this time there was more cinnamon and it was good!! Traditionally these cookies are rolled in sugar but one year I rolled them in cinnamon and sugar and that’s when I knew I had to change it.

Eat these cookies…let them melt in your mouth (: these are delicious dipped in milk, hot chocolate or coffee..if you like super crisp cookies..make them smaller and they will crunch.

Oh Christmas tree…(:

Finally I have a chance to write about my tree…here I go.

We get our tree every year from Home Depot, before we make the purchase…we eat out at a mexican food restaurant called Mario’s..its absolutley delicious!!!

I name my christmas trees every year, last years was Watson and this years is Lord Byron! after the poet..the name seemed so fitting..i did have it picked out before we even got our tree but my goodness does it fit this tree is amazing…hands down the best tree we have ever gotten.

Now before lord Byron looked like this it was absolutely naked haha

and of course..Hunter..our cat who is ruler of the house hold had to do his rounds and make sure this tree was fit for our viewing of this holiday season

He was only scared away when our little pup Tootsie came wandering out to see what he was up to. Most of the ornaments on the tree this year were hand painted by me and my mother…these are my favorite ornaments

The last picture is of my favorite ornament, its Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in drag for Some Like It Hot (:

I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas and got a tree is as happy with theirs as we are with ours!

Song of the week! Christmas themed…..

Since Christmas is less than a week away (screams)I’ve decided to go back to Christmas songs for song of the week…This weeks song is White Christmas by Bing Crosby!!!

Oh how lovely this song is, it makes me want to go tell Santa Claus what I want for Christmas, bake cinnamon rolls, decorate a tree and drink hot chocolate all at once!! I have done close to everything Christmas…I made the pepparkakor, wrapped presents, decorated the tree with my mom, went to see the christmas lights at Naples (I will post pics), exchanged presents with my friends, and eaten at least 20 candy canes. This is my second favorite Christmas song…the first being Jingle Bells by Frank Sinatra..I love Bing Crosby’s voice it’s so perfect and full and magical. I adore Bing Crosby in The Road movies (road to Bali, road to Singapore, honk kong) if you havent seen them then you need to get out there right now and buy them!

I hope you all have an amazing Christmas and Holiday week and weekend!!! (:

Last Holiday and my Christmas tree

At the moment I’m sitting in my living room with my pups, my mom and my absolutely amazing Christmas tree. I will be writing about my Christmas tree tomorrow (probably) so I wont go in to detail but its awesome so be excited to see pictures haha.

I believe I have good taste in movies, some movies I love just because the comedy is so stupid I laugh till I cry..those movies aren’t classy and those aren’t a great example..a great example would probably be The Big Sleep? Anyways this movie isn’t like a classic, it doesn’t captivate you and blow your mind like Citizen Kane or 8 1/2 but it does make you feel good. It is a feel good movie, like You’ve Got Mail or Please Dont Eat the Daisies (adore that movie) this movie makes me want to get outside even while it is pouring rain and start living..now I don’t know what exactly I would do or accomplish..make memories..thats it!  The movie makes you  want to conquer the world, see everything, try everything ..do everything. Another reason I love this movie so much that I smile at the mention of its title is because of all the cooking done in it..I love Chef Didier!! This movie is perfect for me at the holidays..it makes me so grateful for my life and my family and friends. Its funny and sad..mostly funny and the characters are so perfect you feel like friends.

So light a fire (only if you have a fire-place!) grab a candy cane, a cup of hot chocolate and watch this movie and feel completely grateful and at peace.

Have an amazing sunday!!! (:

Pirates of the Caribbean 4….The official Trailer..*insert excited scream*

OH OH OH im so excited…everytime i watch this trailer my heart almost stops..

AMAZING!! Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Amazing..simply magical..beautiful…I was really worried to see Voyage of the Dawn Treader because..to be honest, Prince Caspian (while it was great and I still love it) it wasnt magical like The Lion, the Witch, and the wardrobe. If you need to be proved that the makers and writers of the Chronicles of the Narnia movies wont fail again on the magical level…this is the movie you need to see to become amazed again. The movie starts off pretty quickly..I felt like I sat down and instantly the kids were whisked away to Narnia, but that’s my only complaint.. honestly I loved that movie it was so good and much better than i had expected. In this movie I knew that it was only going to be Edmund and Lucy and their annoying cousin (who, don’t worry, becomes pretty awesome) but Susan and Peter are also seen in this movie which was great!! Oh and of course King Caspian who somehow got even more good looking..The ending made me cry..well honestly sob..but in a good way. When you leave this movie you will feel completely satisfied, The stories of the major characters are perfectly left off…Aslan is amazing and again the movie is magical.

I will be postin pics that i took at the theater later(I’m not on my computer at the moment)  and adding the stories that go with the pics…the point of this post was just to say if you were thinking about seeing the Voyage of the Dawn Treader and you aren’t sure because maybe you weren’t satisfied with Prince Caspian…SEE THIS MOVIE it’s the real deal, you get the magical feeling you got from The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe. (oh and just random fact..I didnt see this movie in 3D which may have made it better since 3D gets pretty annoying and can make the scenes look blurry)

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend…(:

Officially Christmas..

Well..its here! The best time of the year (yeah it’s a fact)..it is now Christmas time because I have finally gotten to “Eloise at Christmas Time”(I really feel like a little kid right now..full of christmas spirit(; ). This movie is amazing, at least to me it is..Eloise is hilarious her attitude and behaviour makes her adorable and the way she handles all her different adventurous situations will always making me laugh no matter how old I am. I watched Eloise with a cup of apple cinnamon tea and my two pups Daisy and Tootsie passed out by my side. Christmas movies are such fun, the point of the post isn’t to say that “Eloise at Christmas Time” is my favorite one it’s just that its kicks off the holiday. My favorite christmas movie is of course “A Christmas Story”.. Oh how I adore that movie.. whats not the love?? the leg lamp..the crazy Bumpuses dogs that run through the house..the PINK bunny footsie pajamas…the “Chinese turkey” at the chinese food resteraunt..Randy eating like a little piggy at the table and finally Mr. Parkers hilarious battle with the furnace. I really cant wait to watch “A Christmas Story” with my family..its one of the best parts of christmas. Christmas really also is incomplete unless you stock up on hot chocolate, candy canes, egg nog (and a lovely egg nog scented candle that i thought would be nasty but smells amazing) and my favorite christmas cookies.. pepparkakor which is really just ginger snaps but to me they are even more special. I soon will be making hundreds of these just for the holidays and ill be sure to post the recipe I always use and pictures. I hope everyone has a great weekend and an amazing start to this holiday season.
