Porto’s : Bakery & Cafe

Today was simply lovely. Spring break so far has consisted of me laying around only getting up to cook and workout and I’ve loved it but I am going to start being more constructive with my time like I was today. A hike that was 3.6 miles in a light drizzle up and down hills to a waterfall and back with the last 1/2 mile up hill = :o. After making it to the car, wet with rain and sweat, my friend Jen said it was time for lunch at this Cuban bakery. I was intrigued, after a little drive we made it and I was in love!! It was basically two stores combined so it was huge and there were so many baked goods I felt like a little kid in awe standing at a candy counter. To start my meal I got a guava pastry and a Cuban sandwich with plantain chips, it was all amazing!!! And the prices were just as amazing! The sandwich was 4.65 and the pastry was .75 cents! after I had to finished eating we went back to buy some things to take home, 3 chocolate pastries, 2
eclairs, 1 macaroon, 1 red velvet cupcake, 2 coconut pastries and more plantain chips and that was all only $14!!!!! I was in shock the entire time of the prices and quality! There are three locations in California, Glendale, Burbank and Downey. It is a bit of a drive for me to get to one again but my gosh is it worth it!!! I cannot get over how good this place was. Here is a link to their website: http://portosbakery.com/, if you are ever in CA or live in CA try this place you will love it!! there is something for everyone! ūüôā

coconut strudel = amazing!

Cuban sandwich = I could eat it forever

Time-lapse Photography of the Milky Way (via Goldpaint Photography)

this video blew my mind..it is without a doubt the most beautiful thing i have ever seen. Watching this video makes you want to just go outside at night (when it is most beautiful in my opinion) and lay on the grass and watch the sky..even if the view may not be even close to this.

Time-lapse Photography of the Milky Way Time-lapse photography has always been an interest of mine. Time-lapse photography consists of taking numerous still images to create a video clip. Now, you might ask, "Why not just use a video camera?" Well, video camera's cannot create 30 second, single frame exposures. In the time-lapse video above, it took 1,100 images with each of them having 35 seconds of exposure (the shutter was open … Read More

Pictures from my weekend

I was just about to get off my computer when I realized I hadn’t posted the pictures from when I went to the movies to see Voyage of the Dawn Treader and the rest of my weekend…so i quickly jumped back on (:

K so this weekend¬†I went and saw Voyage of the Dawn Treader and I took pics of the movie poster and of things at the theater and then saturday I went to my best friends little brothers bday party because he’s beyond awesome!

Every¬†loyal fan has something they can wear to a new movie and im a loyal fan…in comes my lion medallion! I bought this thing off of eBay about two years ago and I LOVE it…the lion looks like Aslan so that’s a win. The second picture is of the movie poster..the awesomely magical movie poster that made me even more excited (if that was even possible). The third picture is awesome..it has nothing to do with Narnia but everything to do with the movie theater and Some Like it Hot…enter the Some like it grilled sign at the concession stand in the movies that blew my mind! Its even written in the same font used for Some like it Hot. The last picture is very random but funny..as me and my friend are sitting there waiting for the movie to start the sign that tells you to shhhhh got stuck for like 3 minutes..so I took a picture..that night i¬†also lost my wallet at the movies and i literally almost passed out but then the awesome movie workers found it! yay! k now its time to party….

My best friends little brother turned 7 on saturday!!! so yeah we went out and partied at Dave and Busters which was a lot of fun! I spent most of my time on this pirate game where you shot skeleton pirates with a machine gun…so much fun (the game is at Disneyland’s arcade too that’s where I first found it) I also got to watch three drunk lady’s fight at the bar (it wasnt a big deal they were just kinda yelling at eachother…I just could not believe how drunk they were) After cashing in our tickets my friend and I shopped and I got awesome stuff (well I think its awesome). We then headed back to my friend’s house and turned a cake in to a donut (yeah I know awesome right?) and watched her little bro rip threw his¬†present’s (: it was a fun night.

K now my goal for the week is to of course post the song of the week (which will get done ) but I also want to post a recipe for peanut butter cookies that I have been waiting to post for about a month now so if im lucky that will happen this week..but if not I have no school for two weeks after this week so it will happen then (: have a great week!!!!

Pictures of my trips to Disneyland (from this past week)

The pictures are in a pretty random order, I¬†don’t¬†have the energy to put them in order right now I just felt like finally sharing them since my camera is full ūüėČ

Basically the pictures are…The castle decorated for christmas time, the christmas time fireworks, main street at christmas time, World of Color, Small World decorated for Christmas, that little room in the sleeping beauty castle, the owl statue near the castle (i¬†think its Archimedes¬†from the sword and the stone but im not positive), a drawing of mickey from a store on Main street¬†where you can go watch the artists draw (duhhh) haha, ohh¬†and the snow after the christmas parade which is really bubbles but you get so caught up in the Disney magic you feel like its snow and finally…a picture of new Orleans square taken from across the rivers of America.

Changing favorite bands…(song of the week)

This is a big deal…changing favorite bands I mean especially if music is as important as air, water and food to you. Aerosmith was my favorite band for seven years, I started questioning whether they were still my favorite band or not after the band started having public fights and Steven Tyler started acting like a drama queen. One reason I was able to love Aerosmith for seven years and not question it was because they were like a family and I saw no end in sight…I loved the fact that they were basically a piece of the past, one of the few bands who was able to keep it together while other bands were falling to pieces (and the fact that they could¬†incorporate blues in to their hard rock sound wasnt too bad either). Now its different, the band is fighting and it seems like they don’t even know the future of Aerosmith so its time for me to move on to a different band, I still love Joe, Joey, Brad and Tom but right now im over Steven Tyler..I feel like he walks away from them whenever he feels like it. The band I have chosen to replace Aerosmith¬†is the “Cold War Kids”. The band is amazing! there songs are pure, catchy, meaningful, and unique. The band formed in 2004 in Long Beach, CA and in my opinion their best music video is the one for the song “Hang me up to dry” its a master piece…but this is not music video of the week this is the song of the week and the song of the week is “Royal Blue” by the Cold War Kids this song will.. I promise you, get stuck in your head and you will love it! you will hum this song while walking down the streets not caring that people are thinking you to be a crazy, while doing house work, home work and anytime some one says the word royal this song will start playing in your head. After listening to “Royal Blue” and falling in love with this purely awesome band listen to “The Wedding” by the Cold War Kids…you will literally dance in your seat. Have a great Holiday Week!! :)(oh the pics are of the band messin around and they are my favorite ones)

From the Seas

The picture that I have chosen for my header is of me looking up..in the right corner it says “From the Seas” which most think I put just because I live near the coast or because I love the ocean. From the seas is what the pirates of the golden age of piracy would say when asked where they were from¬†when caught by the british navy. I read that fact in a book about Black Bart (my favorite pirate) and I thought it was so cool that instead of acknowledging their actual home country where they were from the men¬† ¬†(most of them being from Ireland or Britain¬†at the time) would simply say “From the Seas” it’s so cool to me..I love pirates!¬†I think they are so interesting especially Black Bart because of the way he led his men..setting up great rules (he didn’t even allow gambling or women on his ship). One day when im older and im finally opening my first bakery I want the name to have something to do with pirates..so lately “From the Seas” has been my obsession because I spend quite a bit of time thinking of different names that would work for a bakery..ex “From the Seas cafe”.

Anyways..just random facts and thoughts..Have a great weekend!!

End of weekend

Well, the weekend is over and I must say it was amazing! Saturday I managed to watch all of the Indiana Jones movies while working on science labs and Around the world in 80 days (it was finally on TCM¬†again).¬†Today I headed to Disneyland with my three friends who are the funnest people to attend Disneyland with, I learned how to draw Dopey in the Animation Academy and it was pretty good if¬†I¬†do say so myself ;). I thought I would end this weekend with a picture of my boxer that I took about a year ago, it has to be one of the best pictures of her I have ever taken. I hope everyone’s monday is pure awesomeness ūüôā

what im up to

Goodness have I been busy!

I have had so much school work my head has been spinning, I¬†feel like I¬†have been sitting at the computer working on home work for a year. I have a recipe to post I¬†just need to put a pic of the finished result on my computer first so a new recipe is coming very soon. This week I¬†am working on my least favorite class, music appreciation, and this weekend I¬†am working on three different science labs for…..you guessed it, science class.¬†I am¬†actually quite¬†excited for the science labs I get to make a pendulum for one. The weather went from being windy and cold and amazing to hot, dry, and horrid beyond imagination I hate this weather! I can’t think, sleep or go outside without feeling like my skin is bursting into fire. I find it strange that some people love this weather and I feel as if I have the flu in this weather I have good news though! The weather is supposed to cool down to the 60’s next week….so…all I have to do is make it to then and then once its amazing outside again I shall celebrate by making french bread. Last sunday was Halloween and it was so much fun to see all the little kids dressed up to trick or treat,¬†I handed out candy while wearing my bride¬†of Frankenstein shirt¬†and saw princess’s, a few pirates, an entire family dressed as characters from the wizard of oz and twins that were both Spiderman. I carved pumpkins with my dad, my pumpkin was Dracula while my dads was a regular pumpkin whose pumpkin insides were hanging out of its carved mouth. I finished the night with a game of monopoly with my friend and the movie Van Helsing.

Well, it was nice to catch up but im off to do Pilates.

Oscar Wilde….

I love poetry, if music was non-existent poetry would be my number one obsession. Instead of spending allowance on cd’s and vinyl in target and on eBay I would spend my money¬†and time in the poetry section of used book stores. ¬†Of all the amazing poets of today and of the past my favorite is definitely Oscar Wilde. Born October 16th, 1854 in Dublin, Ireland; Oscar Wilde is extremely popular and remembered for his work as a playwright and poet. I love Oscar Wilde’s work so much because he wasnt afraid to say what he was thinking no matter how many people disagreed with him, I feel as though almost everyone secretly agreed with Oscar Wilde they just didn’t speak up. I love the pictures of Mr. Wilde in which he is wearing a cape, hat and holding a cane, he was so unlike anyone of his time and he wasn’t afraid to show it off he was beyond proud of it.

“Most people¬†are other people. Their thoughts are someone elses opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation”

semi-homemade pasta sauce by Me :)

Okay so this sauce had to be semi-homemade because I used Prego as a base since we were out of tomatoes (next time we have tomatoes though im making my own sauce and posting the recipe:)). I do not like Prego I think it’s too sweet and watery I like my pasta sauce to be thick and spicy. I made this pasta sauce while watching my favorite movie “Some Like it Hot” and both Daisy and Tootsie joined me in the kitchen (they layed on their carpets and slept but they were still there with me ūüėČ ) Everyone loved the pasta, I made this recipe for dinner so here we go,¬†I hope you like it!

For this recipe you will need Prego “Traditional”, 1 can green chilis (which ever heat temp. you prefer), tomato paste (what ever tomato paste you have in your pantry, ill post a pic of what I used soon), 4 pieces frozen chicken, 1 medium onion chopped, 2 cloves garlic chopped, tablespoon butter,¬†2 teaspoon garlic powder, 2 tablespoons parsley, 1 and 1/2¬†tablespoon thyme, 3 tablespoons corn starch, 1/4 cup¬† chicken broth, 1/4 cup cream cheese. The pasta that I suggest using for this sauce would be rigatoni or something similar.

Add half of the 67 oz. container of Prego to a pot then add 1 can green chilis, mix together on low heat, then add 1 tablespoon tomato paste. While the sauce simmers get your chicken out of the freezer and place it in a pan with about an inch of water, put on the stove over medium high heat (make sure and watch the chicken). In another small pan over medium heat¬†put the tablespoon butter and add the chopped onion when the onions become translucent add the garlic (don’t add at the beginning or it will burn and become¬†bitter). Now back to the sauce add 2 teaspoons garlic powder, 2 tablespoons parsley and 1 tablespoon¬†and 1/2¬†of thyme mix together then add 3 tablespoons cornstarch mix again and then add 1/4 cup chicken broth, then add the 1/4 cup cream cheese and the onions and garlic if they are done. When the chicken is finished cooking cut it up in to strips and add to the sauce then pour over which ever pasta you chose and enjoy ūüôā
