song of week

song of the week : Cold War Kids

I have two favorite bands, Mumford and Sons and The Cold War Kids. I can’t pick a favorite, sometimes I listen to CWK more than Mumford and Sons and sometimes I cant quit Mumford and Sons. Right now im having a Cold War Kids moment, I am in love with the lead singers voice, its bluesy, folksy and just different and unique! I love it. Some people think he sounds like a woman which I think is absolutely ridiculous, he just sounds like a man with the one of the most uncommon voices, once you know what he sounds like you know his work. This song is folksy and has a beat that sticks with you. This weeks song of the week is Saint John by The Cold War Kids (im sure you already guess the artist though 😛 )

Song of the week : CHRISTMAS IS HERE, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS BUT HOLIDAY SPIRIT.

Christmas time has finally arrived. Christmas music has been playing non-stop for this girl *points at self* and christmas movies are the only option! nothing else! Lights are being strung up around houses, eggnog lattes are being sold at Disneyland, scarves and knit caps are now being worn by people besides hipsters and the smell of cinnamon and pure magic is filling the air. This weeks song of the week is of course a Christmas song, it was my favorite when I was younger and I use to sing it to my cat Hunter and he absolutely loved it!

It’s Santa Baby!! one of the best Christmas songs ever, true story its a fact!

I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving and I hope your week doesn’t completely suck! Think of Christmas, cinnamon, sparkly lights and family traditions if you get stuck in the holiday blues.

Thank you for reading and God bless you all!! 🙂

Song of the week : Depeche Mode

This weeks song of the week is by Depeche Mode and its awesome! if you dont like this song dont talk to me and unsubscribe! 🙂 But yes this song is amazing and interesting and unique ( which we all pretty much expect from depeche mode)  and its titled “Just can’t get enough”.

And to go along with the song of the week is a clip from an awesome show called “An Idiot Abroad”. Its a clip of Karl Pilkington dancing to the song. SO enjoy :).

Have an awesome week and enjoy these clips!

Song of the week : Young the Giant

This weeks song of the week was discovered while  deciding if I was going to like a band that I was becoming interested in…that was a confusing sentence 🙂 . Basically Young the Giant is played on the radio, two songs. “Cough Syrup” and “My body”, while listening to cough syrup like a maniac I found this song because I needed a break and let me tell you. This song is my love. I forget every time the energy that is poured in to this song. The song starts out calm and beautiful and just turns in to a crazy punk sounding mess half way towards the end and I always go crazy! I love it so much! This is the song that will pick you up off of the ground, dust you off and set you off on your merry way.

Listen to this song and become inspired to kick some serious butt out there in that world of ours!

Thank you for reading and listening and I hope everyone has an amazing rest of the week and a lovely weekend! God Bless! 🙂

Pictures of my work and song of the week

I’ve been keeping up with cake decorating class, every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30. I’m so tired and stressed at the moment from school…i’m not used to feeling this dead. Anyways here are some pics and also im happy to finally post a song of the week again! 🙂 I really have missed doing this! This weeks song of the week is Blackberry Stone by Laura Marling. I absolutely adore Laura Marling! I do believe she is the cutest little british person ever with the most amazing voice (besides Marcus Mumford, of course!)  the way she sings this song just amazes me time and time again. Her music is so beautifully calming, if Enya was folk music..this is what she would sound like.

Thank you for looking, reading and listening. I know this post was two posts kind of mushed together but I’m at the point where im just happy I got the pictures up and I can’t wait for tomorrow because I know its going to be so much better! God bless you all and I hope you all have an amazing rest of the week and a lovely weekend!

Song of the week : Ice Nine Kills

This weeks song of the week is like nothing ive done yet…usually I do folk, rock, or big band but this week im taking a turn that will last two weeks because I want to promote two bands :). The next two songs of the week will be metalcore..the first song I have chosen is by a band that I have loved for about three years now called Ice Nine Kills.

I chose one of their more mellower songs that I absolutely love! If you do like metalcore  I’ll give a few more recommendations at the end…But anyways back to the song. I love the guitar! it makes me dance in my chair and I cant help but sing along. The lyrics aren’t the happiest but the beat is so unique and its own. I love that this band has screamo songs but then also has a few laid back songs. I’m absolutely in love with the lead singers voice..hes crazy talented! I love how this band dedicates themselves to making awesome real music with lyrics that mean something..always makes time to meet with the fans and just show that they care. Ice Nine Kills is beyond awesome and it’s because they show that their band is their life.

So here it is…the song of the week..

I hope you all fall in love with the band and have an awesome week!!!! 🙂

A few recommendations if you love Ice Nine Kills which you do now 🙂

Song of the week : Great Big Sea

Last night I walked my dogs, like I do every evening. It was marvelous weather! the day before it had been warm, bright and sunny but last night it was foggy, cold and looked as if it were going to rain…my favorite weather! While walking the pups I was thinking about which song I would choose for the week and I decided to pick a song by “Great Big Sea”.

I found this band after seeing “Robin Hood” for the first time (the new one). After seeing the movie I came home and looked up the actors that starred in the movie, something I do all the time. I found out that Alan A’Dayle was played by Alan Doyle, the lead singer in a group called “Great Big Sea” and a friend of Russell Crowe. I decided to check out the band since they were folk rock..and I loved them!

Alan Doyle in "Robin Hood"

The band covers traditional Newfoundland folk songs and also writes their own music.

I chose the song titled ‘Recruiting Sergeant”  because it fit last nights weather beautifully and I wanted the song I chose to do so. This song is amazing! it’s so lively it makes me want to buy a boat, go to the beach and go sail somewhere :). The lyrics are also very meaningful which is awesome, the song is about WWI. The instruments used in this band are awesome! The accordion, drums, bass, the bouzouki, banjo and the mandolin! it’s a list of awesomeness! So here it is..the song of the week.

I hope you all end up loving this band as much as I do.

Have an amazing rest of the week!! 🙂

Song of the week : Temple of The Dog

Finally on time for song of the week and it feels good 🙂 this weeks song of the week has a reason and a story..the reason I chose this certain song is because for my music appreciation presentation at the end of the year I will be talking about Eddie Vedder! I adore Eddie Vedder’s deep low baritone voice and his grungy look. The story behind this weeks song of the week is…

Last year every night at around 10, 98.7 would play a recording of a live song..and it was awesome I loved it. I could never figure out what song it was though and I always thought it was Pearl Jam because I heard Eddie Vedder but  I couldn’t find it so finally I just looked up the lyrics (because by this time I had memorized the entire song..this also happened with me and sometime around midnight by the airborne toxic event) anyways I found out it was Hunger Strike by Temple of The Dog! And I basically became obsessed with the song. So this weeks song of the week is “Hunger Strike” by Temple of The Dog..if that somehow wasnt already clear 🙂 .

Look at these two crazy geniuses

I honestly believe I love this song so much because of the way I was introduced to it, it was a mystery to me…I knew all the lyrics but I didn’t know who it was by and it sounded insanely familiar so I couldn’t help but want more. I love how in this song there are two very talented vocalists singing..Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder, they sound very similar but there is enough of a difference that it gives the song a weird sort of depth if that makes any sense at all haha :).  The simplicity of the video is pretty awesome as well..I love how all the guys have crazy long hair it fits beautifully with the whole grunge feel.

I hope you all have an awesome monday and amazing week!! 🙂

Oh and sorry no video, but you can watch it on youtube..it just wouldn’t work on my blog 🙂

Song of the week : The Cars

K, I know I havent been blogging as much and I blame my school for giving me 7 classes when I could barely handle 5 but anyways here is the song of the week and I also plan on posting a recipe Friday.

This weeks song of the week is by an awesome band called The Cars. There are certain songs by 70’s and 80’s bands that just never die, they live on forever on greatest rock songs cd’s, movie sound tracks and newer band covers..a few great examples are “Welcome to the Jungle” “Livin On a Prayer” “Anyway you want it” and finally this weeks song of the week…”Just what I needed”.

This song is AMAZING to say the very least..its no wonder it’s lived on. Everything is perfect, the guitar is gorgeous, the lead singer is obviously gifted with his voice which at first sounds dull but (he still makes it work)  then  turns in to magic. It has a beat that makes you want to sing  aloud for everyone to hear even if when your singing you can’t even stand it. The lead singer is also really awesome..Ric Ocasek..which is a fun name to say.

look at this unique looking old man in all his glory 🙂

This song has everything you want from a song that’s lived on and that’s not surprising since I picked it ;). Play this song and play it loud..and sing along.

I hope you all keep having an awesome week!! and I hope you had an awesome Monday :).

Song of the week : The Decemberists

This weeks song of the week is a song I just heard today on KROQ*. I was pleasantly surprised with this song, at first when it came on I thought it was annoying and it made me want to get up to change the radio station but im glad I gave it a chance because this song is pretty awesome! If at first you don’t like the song…please give it a chance, its awesome and the longer you listen to it the better it gets…so give it a chance. I had heard of this band before but never listened to any of their stuff so im glad KROQ played them. This band is indie folk rock  and pure awesomeness… the lead singer plays the bouzouki!

Look how awesome it is!!

So here it is…the song of the week! This is why we fight by the Decemberists

If you adore indie folk rock music like Mumford and Sons or The Cave Singers…you will love this band..give them a chance, listen to the song and fall in love. 🙂

I hope you all had an awesome Monday! and keep having an awesome week!!!

*KROQ is a local radio station that’s starting to suck but by playing the Decemberists its postponing its fate of completely sucking. 🙂

song of the week : The Takeover UK

This weeks song is by a band that I have loved for a while now…I found them while listening to the alternative music channel on our television and I’m glad I did. I was picking this weeks song last night while I was falling asleep and listening to my iPod and this song came on . This song is so much fun and the beat is beautiful. I believe the story behind their name is that originally it was just the Takeover but they heard that there were a few other bands playing with that name so they added UK because a lot of great bands have come from the UK.  K so here it is…Kill me dead by The Takeover UK and don’t let the title fool you..its a very upbeat song!

I hope you all have an awesome monday and amazing week!!!! 🙂

Song of the week : Flogging Molly

Oh gosh do I love this song! I was first introduced to Flogging Molly a few years ago while listening to KROQ*, Requiem for a dying song came on and I immediately fell in love!! Now Requiem for a dying song is nowhere near their best song, which is drunken lullabies in my opinion, but anyways this amazing celtic punk band makes me wanna jig and fight which is the oddest combination but this is what happens when you fall madly in love with Flogging Molly. This band also produces the best music to bake to..honest. K so this weeks song of the week is Salty dog by the one and only Flogging Molly!!

This band is so awesome I literally want to climb on to our roof and scream it from the roof tops, but I’ll lose my balance and I like living 🙂 .

I love these people

If you end up loving Salty Dog and you want to listen to more awesome music….check out Drunken Lullabies, Whats Left of the Flag, Devils Dance Floor and Black Friday Rule.

I hope you all have an awesome monday and an amazing week!! 🙂

*KROQ’s a radio station that needs to play more music like Flogging Molly and The Clash and less 30 Seconds to Mars and Neon Trees.

Song of the week : The Cure

I had no idea what I was going to make this weeks song so I opened up a document that’s been saved on my computer for three years called “The Magical List”* and was super surprised to see about 10 songs by The Cure…I didnt realize I was so in to them. In  honor of my new-found appreciation for The Cure this weeks song is Close to me by The Cure.

After listening to the song for about 10 seconds I remembered why I put it on the list in the first place…its awesome! The beat is little odd and its own and it makes me tap my feet and twirl in my computer chair. I was also reintroduced to Robert Smith…to state the obvious, he’s very odd but the insanely strange odd that you want..or at least I want..the type of odd that you try to be but you just cant act it because you have to be born that way almost like Johnny Depp is odd but not so odd that you wonder if he should be in an insane asylum. So here it is..Close to me by The Cure.

I hope everyone continues to have an awesome week!!

*The magical list is a list of songs that I find insanely awesome and magical, its 13 pages of songs (at the moment) its constantly growing.

Song of the week

I havent been on my computer because I was busy all weekend and then my computer got a virus but everything’s all better now (thanks dad 🙂 ). I love this weeks song..its by my favorite band and its perfect for this week because it’s really windy outside. This weeks song of the week is Santa Ana winds by The Cold War Kids.

This song is so awesome!! This is a song I never get sick of….. it makes me want to walk my dogs by the beach with an iced tea in hand. I hope you all keep having a great week!!

At the moment..also song of the week

I’ve decided to start posting pictures that I’ve just taken and calling them at the moment. The pictures will be of anything..school notes, my pets, a book..pretty much anything im working on at the moment. This weeks “At the moment” picture is of my cat Hunter lounging on my vanity set…ladies and gentelmen…I give you Hunter..

Isnt he darling? And now, song of the week!!

I found this song while watching the amazing television show “No Reservations” the holiday special…awesome episode!! Anyways at the end Tony and his friend went to eat at a chinese food resteraunt with…wait for it…Marky Ramone (Ramone..Ramone as in The Ramones)!!! and Michale Graves! Anyways after feasting on chinese food and talking about personal tiffs with bands and Santa (yes, santa) the credits rolled and this song was played and I swooped into action on google to find it. The song I present to you readers is..”When we were Angels”!! apparently its a reworking of a Michale Graves song for Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg. The song is awesome!! totally upbeat, again the vocals are perfect..there gritty and wonderful and the fact that Marky is on drums makes the song even more special.

After learning the lyrics..goodluck not singing along, because at the  moment I’m singing as loud as I can with Michale 😉 and its addicting.

Now it feels like the holidays

I hope you all continue to have an awesome Monday and an awesome week!!

Song of the week and a random picture

I literally just took this picture!

I was taking a break from taking notes for music class and I look out my window and there is a bird looking right at me on the tree in our backyard. I did take the picture from inside my room because its freezing outside (and by freezing I mean 57, that’s what happens when you live in CA all your life..57 becomes freezing cold) Anyways…Now the song of the week!!

I feel like I just wrote last weeks because I did just write it on Thursday or something crazy close to that. This weeks song of the week was my obsession last year..I would play it and play it loud..I would blare this song!! This weeks song is No Rain by Blind Melon…oh yes..

This song reminds me of many memory’s of me and my best friend Katlyn trying to preserve our childhood for as long as we possibly could..even if that ment spending summer afternoons blowing bubbles in the front yard (sometimes while listening to the Dropkick Murphys), jumping on a trampoline, learning how to dive in to a pool and even watching Winnie the Pooh. I hope you all love this song as much as I do!

Have an awesome week!! 🙂

(oh and sorry you have to watch the video on YouTube its a buzzkill I know)

Song of the week

I know its late but I have been busy all week. This weeks song is amazing..i adore it..its not new at all its a total oldie. I love this song so much because the lead singers voice is so deep and low and it doesn’t change at all through out the song..i like that its simple…Sorta like Joe Strummer..its not beautiful at all but you get addicted to the simplicity and gritty sound. The beat is addicting as well so after listening to this song it will be trapped in your head for hours……This weeks song is pretty in pink by The Psychedelic Furs!!!!

This band is truly a (very important) piece of the past

(song: Pretty in Pink by: The Psychedelic Furs)

Song of the week! Christmas themed…..

Since Christmas is less than a week away (screams)I’ve decided to go back to Christmas songs for song of the week…This weeks song is White Christmas by Bing Crosby!!!

Oh how lovely this song is, it makes me want to go tell Santa Claus what I want for Christmas, bake cinnamon rolls, decorate a tree and drink hot chocolate all at once!! I have done close to everything Christmas…I made the pepparkakor, wrapped presents, decorated the tree with my mom, went to see the christmas lights at Naples (I will post pics), exchanged presents with my friends, and eaten at least 20 candy canes. This is my second favorite Christmas song…the first being Jingle Bells by Frank Sinatra..I love Bing Crosby’s voice it’s so perfect and full and magical. I adore Bing Crosby in The Road movies (road to Bali, road to Singapore, honk kong) if you havent seen them then you need to get out there right now and buy them!

I hope you all have an amazing Christmas and Holiday week and weekend!!! (:

Song of the week!! (:

Every night I walk my dogs but last night was different, I walked my dogs twice..I usually never do this but right when I was about to go to bed I saw outside my window how super foggy it had gotten and I just had to walk around in it. I got dressed, put the leashes on the dogs (who were pretty confused) and we walked outside for our adventure time. I love fog..especially when it is super thick just as it was last night (it was amazing I felt like I was walking in water). I love adventure, im absolutely obsessed with the Lord of the Rings because they get to go on an “epic” adventure and when I watch the movie it makes me feel like I got to go. Last night was my adventure…it may seem silly that just a little fog in my neighborhood is my adventure but what made the walk an adventure was I was seeing my neighborhood in a different way…which is probably the easiest way to have an adventure. I could barely see in front of me (it was as thick as that fog in that Scooby doo episode where he cuts a slice and eats it haha)..but it was beautiful to see the christmas lights peek out through the fog..as well as the street lights peeking out through the trees creating long rays of light. The song that was stuck in my head while walking was this exact one…The banjolin song by Mumford and sons..its absolutley beautiful! The melody is so much fun and makes me want to go on that walk again, the lyrics are amazing (like always with this band) after listening to this song you will want to replay it over and over..

I hope everyone has an awesome week!!

(This picture is of my cat Hunter..he walks me and my dogs home every night after our walk haha even last night at the second walk in the fog he came and walked us home)

The Banjolin Song By : Mumford and Sons…Lyrics By: Mumford and Sons

Song of the week (Christmas themed) also Mumford and Sons

This weeks song will be a song that will help to get anyone  feel the Christmas spirit! It’s my favorite Christmas song…I think..or at least right now it is. This weeks song is…..Jingle Bells by Frank Sinatra!! This song is amazing!!! it’s so cheerful, countless artists have recorded their own cover of this song but to me Frank Sinatra’s is the  best and always will be, which is no surprise because anything that Frank covered became his song and a song no one could ever sing  better. This song will get you in the perfect mood for Christmas time..I guarantee it.

Now, I’m going to take a random turn and write about another band. I wanted to make this weeks song a song by them but I really needed it to be a christmas song since its christmas time and I can’t have a christmas song for the song of the week in the middle of July( well I can but it just wouldn’t work). The band I need to talk about is Mumford and Sons. This band is amazing, I have been listening to them for about a year now but today I really started listening to all their music to see if I like more of their songs besides the cave and little lion man…and guess what..The band is brilliant! The song that really caught my attention was Thistle and Weeds..its beautiful! I hate describing things with the word epic because it’s so over used with teenagers but seriously this song is epic.. The band seems to be so talented because it’s not that  just together they are great but even separate they would be equally talented and that’s important. All of their songs have this folk indie rock sound that’s just fun and easy-going..the fact that they have a banjo in most of their songs helps give them the easy-going feel. The lyrics are more than lyrics they could be poetry..kinda like how some of  The Doors song were like poetry. Anyways this band has a very unique sound and they are just great, The lead singers voice is so different, I can’t even compare it to anything and I usually can do that with every lead singer. If you havent heard any of their music or if you have only heard little lion man and the cave you gotta check out Winter Winds, Liar and After the Storm..

I hope everyone has a great week!!

Song of the week

On Saturday I worked on my music appreciation project (with my dad) that was on The Clash which was a lot of fun. In honor of my project this weeks song will be a song by The Clash…At the moment im unsure which to choose.. Janie Jones or Rudie can’t fail? Janie Jones has that immediate start with lyrics most listeners of the clash can relate to but Rudie can’t fail has the extremely fun beat. I’m going with Rudie can’t fail. The song is amazing! it makes you want to be a punk or a “Rudie boy” who apparently is juvenile delinquent or criminal in Jamaica, the first rudie boys came from the poorest parts of Kingston Jamaica in the 1950’s and in the 1960’s the term (Rudie) became popular. The Clash’s song is about a rudie boy being told to do something with his life instead of wasting it riding around on the bus listening to music and being a punk and the rudie boy rebels. I love the very beginning “Sing michael sing” the entire song is amazing..the melody is fun and up beat..its by an awesome punk band that has actual punks in it..its the real deal it’s not just a good sound or just good lyrics or just a cool band that seems awesome and then turns out to be awesome this is an awesome band with amazing lyrics and amazing sound..anyway..  Have a great Week!

Changing favorite bands…(song of the week)

This is a big deal…changing favorite bands I mean especially if music is as important as air, water and food to you. Aerosmith was my favorite band for seven years, I started questioning whether they were still my favorite band or not after the band started having public fights and Steven Tyler started acting like a drama queen. One reason I was able to love Aerosmith for seven years and not question it was because they were like a family and I saw no end in sight…I loved the fact that they were basically a piece of the past, one of the few bands who was able to keep it together while other bands were falling to pieces (and the fact that they could incorporate blues in to their hard rock sound wasnt too bad either). Now its different, the band is fighting and it seems like they don’t even know the future of Aerosmith so its time for me to move on to a different band, I still love Joe, Joey, Brad and Tom but right now im over Steven Tyler..I feel like he walks away from them whenever he feels like it. The band I have chosen to replace Aerosmith is the “Cold War Kids”. The band is amazing! there songs are pure, catchy, meaningful, and unique. The band formed in 2004 in Long Beach, CA and in my opinion their best music video is the one for the song “Hang me up to dry” its a master piece…but this is not music video of the week this is the song of the week and the song of the week is “Royal Blue” by the Cold War Kids this song will.. I promise you, get stuck in your head and you will love it! you will hum this song while walking down the streets not caring that people are thinking you to be a crazy, while doing house work, home work and anytime some one says the word royal this song will start playing in your head. After listening to “Royal Blue” and falling in love with this purely awesome band listen to “The Wedding” by the Cold War Kids…you will literally dance in your seat. Have a great Holiday Week!! :)(oh the pics are of the band messin around and they are my favorite ones)

Pics of my pups

On monday morning I decided to take pictures of my dogs Daisy and Tootsie in my backyard with flowers my mom got from my Grandparents. It was such a beautiful day..it was the day that made me decide to make this weeks song Lisztomania by Phoenix….the dogs were so hyper it was hard to take good pictures but I managed to get a few. I think my favorite one is of daisy smelling the flowers because you can see how clear and gorgeous the sky was that day.

Song of the week (really quick)

K this post is going to be really short and quick because I’m working on science but I just thought of what I want this weeks song to be so here it is….Lisztomania by Phoenix….its one of those songs that makes you want to walk around barefoot taking pictures of random things and people and it fits today perfect because outside its lovely…its in the low 70’s there is a little breeze and the sun is shining. I can’t go out and have a lisztomania day because im too busy but I encourage you to 🙂 Keep having an awesome monday!
